Despite speculation that FISH stands for Friends in Service to Humanity,

FISH is not an acronym (the letters don't stand for a longer name). 

Ages ago, people being persecuted could go to houses with a fish symbol drawn on the door frame for safe shelter and care.

The answer is in our name, FISH of Howard County Maryland. All funds and food collected go only to our county's residents in need.

Also, importantly, our operating expenses are very low, less than 4%.

FISH  is not affiliated with any religious group, has no religious component. FISH volunteers represent a range of faiths, ages, nationalities, cultures, gender identities. Within limits of donations received, FISH serves all Howard County, Maryland residents with legitimate emergency needs.
